Abstract

The influence of the first language on the production of a second language is well documented in linguistic studies. It has been proven that a person's mother tongue plays an important role in their ability to use and produce a second language. A person's first language serves as the foundation for their second language, providing a basic understanding of grammar and structure, as well as the ability to understand and use certain words and phrases. When someone learns a second language, their native language often forms the basis of their understanding of the new language. For example, if someone is learning Spanish and speaks English as their first language, they are likely to use English words and phrases to express themselves in Spanish, because they are already familiar with the structure of the language. Also, a person's first language can give them a better understanding of how a second language works, because they can easily recognize patterns in that language. However, the influence of the mother tongue on the production of a second language is not always positive. In some cases, a person's first language can interfere with their ability to use and produce a second language. This is especially true when someone is trying to learn a language that is very different from their native language. For example, if someone is trying to learn Japanese, but their native language is English, they may have difficulty expressing themselves in Japanese due to the grammatical and structural differences between the two languages.
