Francisco Delgado's children's poetry. Analysis of the rhythmic and musical unity of the verse

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the children's poetry of Francisco Delgado Santos, from the rhythmic and musical unity of the verse. Through a qualitative design and inductive analysis of this writer's poetry, metric and sound characteristics of the verses were examined, attention was paid to aspects such as length, the distribution of accentuations and the presence of rhymes and rhythms. The descriptive type of research was applied to define the elements that give harmony and tonality to the poetic composition. The units of analysis were five poems: A dog for the girl; Good night prayer; The works of the Lord; Little, tiny; and, Natalia's dreams. It involved the use of tools such as meter, prosody, and musical analysis to identify rhythmic patterns, repetitions, and sound elements in verses. As a result, it was found that there are pentasyllabic, hexasyllabic and heptasyllabic minor art verses, the latter being the ones that predominate; and verses of major art: decasyllables, hendecasyllables, dodecasyllables and tridecasyllables. The poet uses metrical licences; the sinalefa is the one with the greatest presence. There are few cases of umlaut and syneresis. The ending in the acute word of the verse means that one more syllable is added to the final count of this, it is the second most used metric license to give rhythm. It is concluded that the musicality manifested in the sounds of the stressed and unstressed syllables, immersed in the poetry of Francisco Delgado Santos, serves to motivate reading, so that in turn they enrich the oral expression later transformed into written expression.
