School for parents through learning based on real case studies, to prevent teenage pregnancy

Abstract

The objective of this research was to design a proposal for a parent school using a case-based learning approach to prevent teenage pregnancy at Manuel Octavio Rivera School. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, utilizing questionnaires for conducting interviews with parents and surveys with adolescents aged 13 to 17, in order to analyze the results and propose a parent school based on case-based learning. The study sample consisted of 135 students and 128 parents. The results obtained from the students showed insecurity and lack of trust in discussing sexuality-related topics, as well as limited information about pregnancy prevention and contraceptive methods. On the other hand, parents expressed that they have very little conversation with their children about topics such as pregnancies, contraceptive methods, limits, and respect in sexual relationships. This reaffirms the need to seek contextualized answers for the prevention of teenage pregnancy. Through the study of cases, communication between parents and children can be improved, as they will have a better understanding of the needs and concerns faced by adolescents.
