Validation of Didactic Board for Teaching Home Automation with Alexa in Technological Education in Electricity

Abstract

Home automation has emerged as a crucial discipline in the automation and intelligent management of homes and buildings. The addition of devices such as Alexa, along with programmed switches, spotlights, and plugs, offers an ideal platform for hands-on home automation teaching. This article explores the design, construction, and educational applications of a didactic board for the teaching of home automation at the Instituto Technologic Superior Simón Bolívar in Guayaquil. The article is developed on three practical applications for configuring the uses of Amazon Alexa in its Amazon Echo version, such as: connecting to Google Home, controlling the lighting system, the music that is listened to, viewing CCTV cameras and controlling equipment for daily use all by voice, presented in a learning environment,  for the degree project to be a learning guide for ISTSB students, presenting a solution through the development of a teaching prototype of a home automation system based on Amazon Echo and IoT application, integrating virtual assistants such as Amazon Alexa and devices oriented to control in an educational and didactic way. In the proposal, Alexa is programmed in three diverse ways, controlling elements connected to the Internet such as lights, electrical outlets and CCTV cameras. The architecture part of the board is based on a model that has worked and that we improved in this desk-type development.
