ABSTRACT
This article proposes a methodological approach to address the stagnation of rural development in areas with tourism potential, using regenerative tourism as a key tool. The study focuses on the municipality of Catemu in the Aconcagua Valley, Chile, an area facing socio-economic and environmental challenges due to the decline of mining. Preliminary findings highlight the untapped tourism potential of Catemu, including its rich history and diverse geography, and the need for regenerative strategies to strengthen the social and economic fabric. Strategies such as creating spaces for dialogue, strengthening social organisations and promoting responsible tourism are proposed to restore ecosystems and improve the quality of life of local people (Arnstein, 1969; Ostrom, 1990; Simancas Cruz et al., 2023). This integrated approach offers innovative solutions to the challenges of post-industrial zones and can be replicated in other similar contexts in Chile and Latin America.
