ABSTRACT
Financial education plays a fundamental role in promoting responsible economic decision-making and strengthening individuals' ability to manage financial products effectively. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of financial education on credit card debt decisions among teachers at Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional "Juan Montalvo" in Manta, Ecuador. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional, non-experimental research design was employed. The study population consisted of 57 teachers, with an effective sample of 48 participants. Data were collected through a structured Likert-scale questionnaire with high internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.8928). Statistical analyses were performed using JASP software, including descriptive statistics, Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients, and the Chi-square test. The findings revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship between financial education and debt-related decisions (ρ = 0.5019; p < 0.001), indicating that higher levels of financial education are associated with more responsible credit management. The study concludes that strengthening financial knowledge, behavior, and attitudes contributes to better financial planning, more responsible credit card use, and a lower risk of excessive indebtedness.
