The development of digital skills in basic education students is a key factor for their performance in the knowledge society. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance learning and improve digital literacy. This article analyzes the impact of AI on the acquisition of digital skills in basic education students in Ecuador, highlighting the benefits, challenges, and opportunities presented by its integration into the educational system. The methodology employed includes a bibliographic and field review, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The methods were hermeneutic, deductive, and descriptive. A case study was applied in selected educational institutions. The findings suggest that the use of AI in the classroom improves the understanding of technological concepts, encourages critical thinking, and promotes greater student engagement. Finally, recommendations are presented for the effective implementation of AI in basic education in Ecuador, such as the implementation of teacher training programs in the use of AI for teaching. the promotion of policies that guarantee equitable access to technology in all educational institutions; and the encouragement of research and development of Artificial Intelligence tools adapted to the Ecuadorian educational context.
