ABSTRACT

The objective of this study is to characterize the level of Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption and its perceived impact on dynamic innovation capabilities in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) within the banana sector of Manabí Province, Ecuador. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-exploratory design. A case study methodology was applied to two agroproductive MSMEs: Hacienda Margarita and Hacienda Anita. Data were collected through a structured survey based on the models proposed by Flores and Gutiérrez (2022) for the Artificial Intelligence variable and García et al. (2014) for dynamic innovation capabilities, using a five-point Likert scale. The instrument consisted of 37 items. The results reveal an incipient level of Artificial Intelligence adoption in the companies analyzed, particularly regarding strategic implementation, resource allocation, and staff training. Relatively positive levels were identified in the dimensions of customer orientation, market orientation, and innovation performance. The MSMEs studied demonstrate practices aimed at adaptation and continuous improvement; however, they still face challenges in consolidating systematic technological innovation processes.
